Intra-arterial administration of radioactive particles into the liver for treatment of cancer now offered by Radiology Associates of Clearwater

08/02/2008:

The Interventional Radiologists (IRs) of Radiology Associates of Clearwater (RAC) have a long-standing dedication and interest in cancer procedures. We have a collectively rich amount of experience in such procedures:  Direct tumor destruction (the most common techniques are known as radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation, under CT scan guidance) which is performed in many organs, including the liver, kidney, lungs, and bones; and regional administration of chemotherapy and other active tumor destructive agents. This latter group of procedures entails the placement of a small plastic tube (catheter) into an artery in the groin, and moving the catheter within the arteries into the arteries to the liver. There are many different types of cancer destructive material that can be injected through the catheter into the liver arteries. While we have been performing this procedure with chemotherapy for more than 12 years, we have recently begun to use radioactive particles for treatment as well.
